FAQ
Which Blender versions? Blender 5.0 or newer. Tested on 5.0 and 5.1.
Do I need another voxel editor?
No. Voxel Mode models, paints, generates, rigs and exports on its own. It also
reads and writes .vox files, so you can move models to and from other voxel
editors.
How big can a model be?
Up to 1024 voxels on each side. .vox export splits anything over 256 into
several models in one file.
Will my files open without the add-on? Finalised meshes are ordinary meshes and open anywhere. Editing a voxel model needs Voxel Mode; its voxel data stays in the file and is picked up again when the add-on is enabled.
How does undo work? Voxel Mode keeps its own undo for voxel edits. Ctrl + Z works anywhere in the window.
Can I use the shipped shapes in my own projects? Yes, including commercial ones. You can ship them inside a finished game, render or product. You may not resell them as assets. See Licence and seats.
Can I use my own rig instead of the guided one? Yes. Finalise into parts (One Object Per Group) and parent them to any armature you like, or build a rigid rig from your groups (see Groups).
Does it do smooth (non-cube) voxels? Voxelize Mesh can output a smooth Marching Cubes surface. Editable voxel models are always cubes.
What doesn’t it do?
- Several models in one
.voxfile. Export writes the active model. - Rigs, animation or groups in
.vox. The format can’t hold them; use glTF/FBX. - Finger rigs, or retargeting existing animations onto a changed character.
Where do I report a bug? Include your Blender version, the steps, and if it’s about speed, the output of Grid ▸ Benchmark.
